WELSH OVERLAND SAFARI TOUR
Hill forts of the Brecon Beacons National Park and Cerreg Cennen Castle
On this tour we begin our journey travelling towards the Epynt and then onto Pen y Crug Hillfort above Brecon. From here you will be treated to a breathtaking 360 degree view of the Usk Valley.
Then we travel to Bethlehem (not that one), just above is the impressive Hillfort of Garn Goch the largest Hillfort in South Wales with a staggering internal area of 28 acres surrounded by stone walls of massive quantities. Even though they have collapsed they are still very impressive, with a huge burial cairn being one of the main features.
ABOUT THIS MID WALES TOUR
Pen y Crug was a thriving community with traders, farmers and craftsmen who lived here in round mud huts with thatched roofs going about their day to day business.
Only a few miles away is the stunning remains of Carreg Cennen Castle, standing on a lime stone knob. The castle boasts a spectacular location which will amaze even the most well travelled people, overlooking the remote Black Mountain in the western corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Richard, the guide will take you through the history of the castle, believed to be build by the Welsh Prince Rhys Ap Gryffydd in the 12th and 13th centuries. And if your brave enough he'll take you down a tunnel that takes you under the castle, just remember your torch! Once you have exhausted your self exploring we recommend you retire to the farm tea rooms for a well earned cream tea.
